I'm currently creating a new version of our internal office intranet
using Microsoft FrontPage and one of the features I would like to us
is a menu of sorts using Java/DHTML.
The navigation pane/menu will be on the left-hand side of the screen
so it will be a vertical menu - much like the example on this page:
http://dhtml-menu.com/examples/ex2-vertical-dhtml-menu.html.
What I would like to know is:
1. Is it possible to create this sort of menu without purchasing an
add-on for FrontPage?
2. If you need to purchase an add-on, does anyone have any
recommendations for a program?

| | I'm working with FP on a Web that I inherited. I can edit some pages just
fine, but others seem to be locked. When I click on the html file name in
the tree-view of the Web in the left pane it opens in the right pane in
Design mode. But when I move the cursor to the left pane the cursor turns
into a red STOP icon (circle with slash) and I can do nothing. Why is this?

What I am trying to do is connect the data so that I can display all on the
same page.
The concept is team/sponsor
I have a table for teams with contact data etc.
I also have a table with [team] sponsor information
I have a form which updates the team info and a form that updates the
sponsor info but I am trying create a way so that when the sponsor info is
added it is connected to the respective team
When I enter the sponsor info I already have the Team ID as part of the
form.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated..

| | I hope someone can help me with what I though should be a simple task.
I'm trying to create a simple contact me form where the view will enter his
name, email address, and a comment and then click Send to have the data sent
to an email address. One the data is sent I want it to go to a custom
"thankyou" page with a link back to the homepage of my site.
I've created the from using the tools FrontPage and have it working
internally. But when the web page is hit from the outside the custom
thankyou page is slow to load and loads with out styles and images. I
notice that the URL data for the page shows my internal IP address instead
of the proper external address.
The real purpose of this exercise is to have a customizable from used as a
contact method and not have email addresses exposed in the code.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I have just about given up in making a single swap image in Frontpage 2003
turn from small to large in Behaviors. Instead can someone please explain
to me howw I can make a "gallery" of 4 or 5 small thumbnail images connect
to 1 LARGE image. So when I mouse over the small images one at a time,
then each small image is represented in the Large Image.. So if I mouse
over small thumbnail 1, then a "larger" thumbnail 1 would show up in the
Big Window, and if I mouse over thumbnail 2, then a large Image of
thumbnail 2 would show up in the Big Window. The large picture window would
be on the top left portion of the page, and the smaller thumbnail images
would be to the right in a column running vertically, one after another
vertical. Please can someone help me achieve this using layers and behaviors
or can someone send me a really nice premade script.

Because I think I just butchered my question, let me say it another way.
If I take a 'screen shot' of this TechNet web page, pasted it into a
Frontpage 2003 html page, how do I tell the program that the menu bar at the
top is clickable such as I can mouse over and click on "Home" and it will
take me to Home, or I can click on Library and I'll be directed to the
Library Link?
The way I "envision" this is that I might place a 'Layer' (if that is what
I'd be doing) over the .jpg image of this page, and on the layer, I could
make like a 'text box' that would actually be a "clickable" box over any part
of the image. Essentially turning that part of the .jpg into a button that
links.
Wow. That's harder to describe than I thought!
I'm sure this is easy. Can someone tell me generally how this is done?

The problem is that I am getting a backslash before a double or single quote
and I cannot figure out how to get ride of it.

The above works perfectly but if I attempt to pass the sql string into the
page as follows:
sqlCMD = 'SELECT * FROM cpuinfo where Description like "%xcell%" or
Description like "%q6600%" ';

I see the following on the IE7 explorer address bar:
myserver/mysite/cpustats.php?sqlCMD=SELECT * FROM cpuinfo where Description
like "%xcell%" or Description like "%q6600%"
AGAIN, ONE WOULD THINK THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ABOVE.
Low and behold, the following code
$query = $_REQUEST['sqlCMD'] ;
print ($query);
gets expanded to:
SELECT * FROM cpuinfo where Description like \"%xcell%\" or Description like
\"%q6600%\"
I do not know why I see the backslash before the quote. Swapping single and
double quotes has no effect. $_REQUEST seems to substitute backslash before
any quote in a string. My guess is that IE7 (also FF) put it in. The MySql
query fails as it does not handle the backslash before the double (or
single) quote. I would hate to have to parse thru the string and remove the
backslash character when it is before a quote.
anyway, I am open to any suggestions. I am tired of googleing this. All I
found on google were attempts to add backslashes, not get rid of them.
..tia..
ps - if I actually add a \" then I get three backslashes.

The choices that TW offers here are either Linux or Windows for the servers.
What is happening now is that they are upgrading their Win servers to 2008,
which do not have the Front Page Server Extensions installed.
You can use Front Page to continue making web pages and sites, and you can
use FTP to upload the files to either of their server types. What you cannot
do is use the HTTP based publishing which is utilized by the FPSE.
The new server; seeings they do not have FPSE, will not support components
which utilize the extensions. Those pages can be converted to use other
technologies (asp, .net, php) which can do the same things that the fpse
did, but they are much more flexible

I recently received word that TimeWarner was changing servers and would have to migrate my current home page to the new server. They offered two choices. I chose the one which included (according to them) HTML compatibility. It doesn't. While their FAQ recommends MS Front Page as a program to buy and use, their tech folks say the new system WILL NOT work with Front Page. And, both options end up being ftp sites. They offer a web based system which is only useful if you are a teenager who want to post pictures of your prom and your favorite music and videos. For any serious work, you will have to struggle. So, fair warning. Sometimes what you get for free is worth what you pay for it.
