| Re: how do i get text to fade in as a web page is opening in publisher DavidF 08:05:24 |
| | Sorry, but it is unclear as to what effect you want. Please post your version of Publisher and a better explanation. Perhaps post a link to a sample page where we can see what you are wanting to accomplish.

| cross browser question Deech 16:13:27 |
| | Hi David,
this letter is in regard to the question below which I posted in the wrong section. I have now downloaded Firefox and checked out my site. www.anovelmillion.com
I am ready for any suggestions you might have. The issues appear to be:
-bottom links not working -formatting in "buy words" page -formatting in FAQ (under each question title, text has no space) -FAQ- links (back to top) not working -title page- A novel Million in text box looks funny (transparency effect is odd)
Apart from that, I reckon it's not too bad. I'm a little dissapointed though, that it might have turned some people away who have visited my site (30% of 8000 hits)....I hope if it did that they return. I didn't realize that I could just download firefox so easily.....should I also be downloading other browsers and checking (any suggestions?). According to my web stats, 23% of people are using "unknown ?" browser, 10% using safari, and 1% each Netscape, Mozilla, and Opera.
Thanks Deech
deech,
Pub 2003 does have limited cross browser support, but in your case you can work around it. First of all, I would suggest that you download and install FireFox so you can test your site. Don't wait until someone tells you it doesn't work. If you are going to take the time to build a site, you should take the time to test it. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/releases/1.5.0.4.html
You will note that after you get past your index.htm page, you have included both a navbar at the top and the bottom of the page. The top navbar works just fine, while the one at the bottom has been converted to an image, and killed the links. There is a workaround.
The formatting on your Buy Words page is off in Firefox. There is a workaround.
If you are interested in fixing your site, then please repost in the webdesign group: microsoft.public.publisher.webdesign, and I'll help you....but download and install FireFox first, because you will need to test the fixes.
And in the meantime, you might want to read: "Are You Cross Browser Compatible? by Matt Benya": http://msmvps.com/blogs/dbartosik/articles/80825.aspx

| Trouble Uploading Webpage Say 12:56:01 |
| | I have created a webpage using Publisher 2003. I am having trouble uploading it through FTP and Publisher. I have the log on information but cannot access the files/folders. I receive an error message of a firewall or proxy server, or the program seems to freeze with the hourglass showing and no response. I have tried many, many times and have had no success.
I have followed the instructions for uploading using FTP at: http://msmvps.com/blogs/dbartosik/archive/category/1921.aspx but have had no success as detailed above.
I am able to access the files/folders using FFFTP software (FFFTP Ver.1.92a).
When I saved the file on my computer as a Webpage & htm and uploaded it using the FFFTP software, I was only able to see the first page of my webpage and could not see the photos/images.
When I saved the file on my computer as a One File Webpage and mht and uploaded it using the FFFTP software, I could see the entire webpage, photos and it looks great. However, the address that appears in the address section at the top of the page is very long & strange looking. I inputed names for each page of the webpage (ex. contactus, but I see in the address section at the top of the page: mhtml:http://www.juraisin.com/lps_english.mht!lps_english.files/page0041.htm ). I think it's too long & strange looking.
Is this because I am not uploading the page directly through Publisher & FTP? Is there any way around this problem while using the FFFTP software?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help.

| linking pages question Mary 01:53:04 |
| | hi,
using publisher 2003.
i had a site that linked beautifully between its pages---thanks to these discussion posts---but their urls wouldn't have made sense to general site users, ie. domain/page1232/html instead of something like domain/home/html.
so i tried to change the urls of the pages by going into "insert" then to "navigation bar", ..."modify link", where i clicked on "existing file or web page" and then typed into "Address:" a new random address, such as domain/home/html.
but now none of the site comes up on the web.
so, my question: how does one properly make the urls more user-friendly, ie. ...address/home/... instead of address/page21234/...? or if i can't from where i am at the moment, can i get the numbers all back and working without having to start a new document and pasting into it.
thank you for any help, ~mary

| Problems with hyperlinks Ben Lambert 21:48:16 |
| | Hi, can anyone help me?
I have FPSE installed on my webspace. When I 'publish to the web', from Publisher the website is uploaded and all the files appear on the webspace. However, all the hyperlinks contain the address of the upload server, and hence all users are asked for authentication before the website will load any linked images, pictures, pages, etc. How do I tell Publisher to make all the hyperlinks relative to the actual URL that it is accessed from.
To clarify, I upload to http://frontpage.btconnect.com, and the website is then accessible from http://home.btconnect.com/riverside/index.htm, but all the linked pages/pictures, etc still contain the http://frontpage.btconnect.com URL and hence wont load. I need tell publisher to make all links relative to the site is accessible from, and not where it was uploaded to.
Help!
Ben.

| publisher vs frontpage Wren 01:17:01 |
| | hello,
I need to create a simple webpage and it appears that publisher will be adequate. however, i do need to enable users to download pdfs and powerpoint presentations, view video and submit forms. Near as I can tell, publisher will enable me to create forms that are submitted but it would appear that only Frontpage will enable me to let users download pdfs, files and video. is this correct? thank you for your help.

| How do I link two web pages using Microsoft Publisher 2003? Canela 03:14:32 |
| | I have created, saved, and uploaded (?) two web pages to my web host. They are listed under the public_html folder of my domain name. The host tells me they are in the correct folders, however is not familiar with Microsoft Publisher 2003 and can not help me link pages together. I have tried using navigation bars. I have selected text, right-clicked, and chose hyperlink. I am at a loss. I don't know what I am missing. The host says I need to name the "correct path" but does not give me more information than that. He suggested I contact Publisher.

| Uploading Publisher 2003 site using FTP Lesleycortright 10:13:01 |
| | I am using Publisher 2003 and have read most of the responses on your blog. My ISP (godaddy.com) says the reason my site is not posting is because there is no index.htm file (which i have learned is actually the pubmaster001.htm file). When I try to upload to the FTP site through Publisher (and I've already added the FTP site info through Publisher) I get to the Publish to the Web stage where I put in my FTP login and password. Then, when I try to save (and the file name is index.htm) Publisher freezes and doesn't let the upload continue. Any idea what could be happening and how I can get my site uploaded?
