| Linking to a web based photo gallery Trishe 21:03:02 |
| | I have added a photo gallery page to my website using Pub 2003. I have inserted images from my local file. I have tried to create a hyperlink from the image/s on the page to a folder that includes a web based photo album. (The web gallery contains an index.htm, slides, thumbs, res)
I have uploaded (FTP) this web-gallery to my remote. I have in Edit hyperlink typed in the path/url as the address to my remote as the hyperlink. Doesn't work...Keeps looking in My Documents.
How do I get it to link to my URL and the gallery index?
I really like the publisher pages...haven't had a problem till trying to do someting fancy....
Hope I am specific enough. I have read and re-read posts and links and am getting a little frustrated. (Played with creating a basic site in Dreamweaver, but have had all kinds of browser issues compared to publishing a PUB page.)
Thanks!

| RE: how to change title Gregm 20:11:01 |
| | [in publisher 2007]
Along the bottom of the screen are the page numbes [1][2][3][4] etc.
Right click on the page you want to name, Choose Web-page options (or rename) and fill in a title. Whilst you're there, fill in a descriptions ane keywords for search engines.
[Other method would be the drop-downs Tools->Web-page options]

| RE: Make web pages centered... Gregm 20:07:01 |
| | Tristan,
This is a common question, see the earlier post 7/30/2006 'Webpage centered"
Your page is desgined to be ~1000 pixels wide, therefore any screen much wider than that (e.g. 1280 pixels wide or above) will have some blank space to the right. On a 1024px wide screen it fits perfectly.
Its good that you've designed to 1000px, as you can be pretty sure most users today have screens of at least that resolution. Many of the objects on the page are positioned relative to the top left-hand corner of the display, it seems to me be more complex
I haven't found a good answer to centering the page. It is possible to hand-edit the files created by Publisher, but this is fiddly and laborious. It seems to be more complex in practice than putting <Center> tags around the contents of the page (After the BODY tag). Others in this forum may be able to help you as they've helped me in the past.
To be honest, I think you may be worrying too much about the space on the right - as annoying as it may be.
Publisher seems to be good for rapidly creating simple webpages - if you want to develop beyond that then you'll need to change in the future to a tool that gives you more control than Publisher. For example, liquid layout where pages flow to fill the screen - generally achieved by sizing things as percentages of the desktop rather than absolutely (e.g. defining a table tobe 50% of the screen width rather than 512pixels). I prefer liquid layout - the user's paid for a big screen, might as well let him use it!
What I think publisher is good for is rapidly testing designs of webpages (look, graphics, schemes, layout) and that's an important skill to develop. Good luck!

| how to insert JavaScript code into the <Head> section of HTML? Heydayv 00:45:02 |
| | Is there any way to insert JavaScript code into the <Head> section of the HTML of a webpage designed in Publisher 2003? I am aware of the option of viewing the source code and inserting the code . . . However, that is time-consuming, not user-friendly and not what a designer wants to have to do to creater dynamic web pages. What other options are there for inserting code into the <Head> section?

| Converting Publisher Files to standard html Ralph Lambert 23:54:43 |
| | I hope I am explaining what I am trying to do clearly. Anyway, I inherited a website that was produced in Publisher (version unknown). I have been asked to clean up the site so that the user can make simple updates without having to republish the entire site. For example they have different hours in the winter and summer, product news, specials.
- My limited experience with Publisher has been that whenever I add text I blow out the cells in the tables. - Images and files are named with numbers and are not even close to having any sort any naming convention in a meaningful way.
My goal is rebuild the site giving files simple names like aboutus.html, info.html instead of 22234.htm or xyz.htm
* My question: (Finally) Can I do this in publisher or do I have to bite the bullet and use a speadsheet and go through the site file by file and rebuild it using NotePad or Front Page or some other editor? *

| lenght of page and hyperlinks (bookmarks) Drak10687 18:14:30 |
| | i know that publisher automatically ajusts the length of the page depending on where the last object is, however, it does not seem to work well when you use html code.
i have a long list of names and i split them into alphabetical order and then using html code made links (bookmarks) to letters so you wouldnt have to scroll down alot. Everything works fine, untill the anchors are outside the page (because the list is too long). The text shows up, but the links dont work.
I figured out how to increase the lenght of the page, however, this is allready my 62ond page and changing the length alters all the pages in undesirable and dynamic ways.
Is there a workaround to this besides changing page lenght or splitting the list? (publisher 2003)

| blocked content Drak10687 05:21:22 |
| | whenever i add html code to my website that links to another page, (so far used code for making drop down menue, and making hyperlinks open in a new window) when i view that page in internet explorer it drops down a little bar at the top of the page saying it has restricted this file from showing active content that could access you computer. when i click on it, i have to click "allow blocked content" so that it goes away and lets me click on those hyperlinks/dropdown menue.
its not really a problem, but its kinda annoying having to do that everytime i open the website.
im using publisher 2003, and my website is not, and will not actually be on the web, but on a cd. also, this does not happen in mozilla, but mozilla dosent make some of the graphics on my site show up correctly.

| hyperlinks using ECMAScript Drak10687 03:30:57 |
| | I want to make my hyperlinks open in a new window. After searching I found out how to do it using the html code approach, but on the microsoft office help site there was also an ECMAScript approach described here:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011587451033.aspx
however when i tried that, upon opening the page with that link explorer declare "blocked content" and when i "unblock" it and click on the link, nothing happens and at the bottom of page it says "error"
if anyone knows how to make this work, it would be greatly appreciated as this way i can keep the links i have allready made and organised into tables (i have up to 20 links per page), thanks.
