| Publishing problem C Tate 22:43:04 |
| | I've created a website for a friend. My friend registered a domain name herself. Trouble is I don't think she actually ordered webspace! It looks like she did but the order actually says 5mb (mailbox). I will have to clarify what all that menas with lycos. I mean why do you need that amount of space for a mailbox?! I'm confused.
Anyway, until that is all sorted out I had an idea. What I've done is use the webpointing feature of her package (it does have that, at least) to redirect people visiting her site to my free web space with my provider (where I've placed her site). This seems to work absolutely fine when you view the site with Firefox. The redirect thing works like a dream. However, when you try to view the site with Internet Explorer you can only see the home page (index.html). The navigation bar won't load the other pages. I can't understand why this is the case in one browser and not another. Can anybody offer an explanation? By the way, I've chosen the option in Publisher NOT to group all the pages in a folder other than the first page. So all the pages are individual.
Also, what is the best place to read all about hosting websites etc? I'm UK based.
Any help, advice gratefully received!

| RE: embedding Claude 21:08:09 |
| | Hi David Barthosik. Re Publisher 2003)This is from Claude, re embedding/linking MP3's. I am r rather frustrated with Microsoft that they did'nt see this coming (the fact that MP3's are so much smaller than .wav, therefore much more practical to use... I wonder why on earth they did not design Publisher to cater for this. Also, I tried what you said first, (link, don't embed) in frustration, because it does'nt work. When finished linking and I preview, nothing happens. When I run the page live off the web, still nothing happens, which is the very reason why I decided to do some research. Thanks.

| | I have recently designed and published a web site in Publisher 2003 following the ftp location and it has published successfully to my web space URL address. But when I access the site using my domain name I find it has only published the details of the Home page and the other pages are blank. My domain name host says it's not a problem with their site and my ISP say it's not a problem with their site. Can you help?

The web site does run, the hyperlinks all work and the graphics work if I am using my browser (Firefox). However, for my friends when they load through explorer: no graphics. When I run it through my old explorer version: no graphics.
Please help. Thanks

| relative path of hyperlinks JayCee 09:26:05 |
| | Hi, I am using publisher 2003 on the intranet and I have several text and pictures with links. The text hyperlinks to destination folders without any problems. However, when I hyperlnk images (jpeg) to same path as text (example: //host1/service/webpage/), the path i typed in changes to "//././././service/webpage"when i view it on the intranet and link does not work. when i open publisher again to check, the hard path i typed is changed to //././././service/webpage. is there a way to fix this? Thanks.

| clip art looks bad Julia 06:49:38 |
| | I am creating a web site using Publisher 2003, and uploading it with Smart FTP. I am using an image from the Office Online Clip Art site - it looks great in Publisher, but on the web page it is fuzzy and the girl is missing one eye. The only tip I could find in Publisher Help is View/Pictures/Detail Display, and that was already checked. I googled this group, but couldn't find a similar posting.
Can anyone tell me how I can correct this problem?

| Viiew PDF file from Web Preview Tom 04:55:30 |
| | I just built a website with Publisher 2003. Most everything is working fine except when I try to link to a pdf file. I read the other posts and David's article and I am trying to understand if there is ANY way to view the PDF file from publisher Web Preview prior to uploading to the production site. I want to be able to test the navigation prior to rolling it up to production. Is there anything I can do short of publishing it to the production site? -- Tom

| Browser Question Mary 17:42:14 |
| | Hi,
Using: Publisher 2003 and Internet Explorer
Question 1: My page works when I test it/view it using Internet Explorer but if I go to it/view it using Mozilla or other browsers it shows a blank screen with only one of my textboxes visible---no images or navigator bars.
How do I fix this?
Question 2: I've been uploading using the steps suggested by publisher 2003 which do work, however, the url always becomes something like address/index_files/aboutus.htm instead of address/aboutus.htm. i've fixed it in the past but off hand/at the moment don't know how i did it. does one upload to a different host file, such as public_ htm to fix it?
thank you for your help, ~mary

| Publisher - repeated images have different file names, why? Gregm 16:16:01 |
| | In creating a website, with the same logo on each web-page, when it is published each page uses a different image file, e.g. image112.gif on page 1, and image143.gif on page 2. This means the browser cannot used the cached image from page 1 when displaying page 2, and therefore has to download more content than neceesary.
The images are identical - in size, file, position on the page, and are included on the master page.
How can I make eacg page link to just one image file, e.g. logo.gif?

| Images fail to appear...? Djdefpoints 21:44:02 |
| | Hello, mvp's
I'm having trouble with some animated .gif's and images on my site, built with Publisher 2003. When I insert them into the master page, they work fine, but when I try to insert them into subsequent pages, they simply don't appear. SOME images appear fine on the pages, and I can't find a common denomenator. When I use the "change image" command on an image that loads fine, the new image shows up. Only when I add the image does it fail to appear in the web preview. Note: it isn't a draw-order problem, tried that.
Thanks for your time. -- -no sig necessary-

| google search Caroline 18:12:46 |
| | My organization, the Maine Alliance for Arts Education, has its website published, www.maineallforartsed.org. When I google it, the link is correct, but the title and description is jibberish. When I Yahoo search for my site, the correct title and link appears. I have adjusted the description and keywords in Publisher, but can't figure out why no description/title shows up on Google. Any help would be much appreciated.

| May I vent? Mamaw 06:53:42 |
| | I had a perfectly functioning web site that I frequently updated. HAD until Microsoft advised me to update Microsoft Office. Now when I try to "publish to web" and type in the http:// address everything works until I get to the dialog box labelled "Saving". At that point either Publisher hangs up or I get the message "Unable to save...check your URL or web connection. I'm connected to the web, the web address hasn't changed, and it's unlikely that I've typed it incorrectly a few hundred times. What other good and functioning programs are out there to create a website besides Publisher or other "work when it wants to" MS product? -- mamaw
