Custom Report...Need help creating

James Stewart 24 October 2005 19:21:07
I am trying to create a custom report in QB Pro 2003 but am having some
dificulty. I'm not sure that it can be done, but if so, I am hoping
someone here can help.

I want to create a list of my customers that I want to send and end of
the year letter to. I have a custom field for my customer list for
'Year End' in which I enter 'y' if they should recieve this letter. I
can accomplish this by modifying the 'Customer Contact List' report to
also filter for the 'Year End' field. However, I also want to filter
out any customers that have not done business with us this year. Is
there a way to filter for this? I am at my wits end.

Just a guess as I use QB Pro 2002 but can you make the customers that you do
not use anymore inactive? and then proceed.

Filtering custom fields in QuickBooks has always been tricky if I remember
correctly. The easiest would be to create the report with the information
and send it to Excel, sort by the column with the 'y' in it and extract that
data only to another sheet.

As far as your second report, I'm not aware of any report in QuickBooks that
will show you that information. You could run a Income by Customer Summary
for 4-5 years, and show columns by years, Again if you send that report to
Excel, a lot easier to sort the column you need to see.

The customers aren't really inactive though, they just haven't done business
with us this year, but they very well may next year.

That's a thought, I'll give that a try and see what happens - and by the
way, there is a lot in QuickBooks that is tricky!!
