| white hat, blah blah blah Vegas-real-estate-kid 06:17:59 |
| | 1) Of course, everyone says the best way to get to the top is build a comprehensive site w/ unique content that people will naturally link to. (cough cough, BS, cough, cough)
People with relative content don't "naturally" one way link to you. 90% of the time you are the competition, and if they have a decent pr, they know better than to send a one way link to you.
So how do you really get relative sites to one way link to you? The only solution I see is to pay them. Please, please, please tell me another way because I cant afford this!!
2) Outbound links - are they really necessary in the eyes of Google? If I have zero outbound links is Google going to penalize me for not linking to relevant content? If so, doesn't that go against the theory that you should have a comprehensive site? Why not just recreate that content and store it on your site. Isn't the point to keep the traffic on your domain?

| Overture Pay per Click to generate traffic Roxxy 06:04:50 |
| | Overture has a well organized PPC system. You can bid for rankings and also choose the description and title you want, which provides highly targeted traffic to your website. You can control your bids at all times and adjust them, based on the quality of your results. Especially handy is the Search Term Suggestion Tool, which shows you how often people search for a particular word or phrase. Overture pay per click would be the best choice generating traffic to your website.

| How to spot emerging computer, Internet and other tech. trends. Noticedtrends 23:46:10 |
| | It's possible to spot emerging computer, Internet, and technology trends; especially as it applies to responding to security concerns e.g., malware.
Trend-spotting is done through search strategies using inference by noting the context of how specific keywords are applied. For example, if an author of content subconsciously mentions words like 'a growing trend toward', or even the word 'lately,' this can signal emerging trends.
Since emerging trends per-se receive very little (yet growing) mentions within media content; the use of specific keywords naturally narrows-down the number of search results; yet greatly increases the percentage of search-results on growing trends.
'Rootkits,' a form of malware have been gaining attention lately. Here is a sample search using the occurrence of words 'rootkits' and 'lately.'
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=m3&q=%22rootkits+lately%22+malware++%22july+2006%22&as_qdr=m3&btnG=Search
---For specific dates: 'July 2006'OR 'July * 2006' applies an asterisk to indicate specific dates, and infers up-to-date content; yet some Internet sites contain older content. Many trade and professional publications post-date content e.g., 'August, 2006'
--- The asterisk character "*" is a wild-card character that also indicates two words NEAR each other.
The term 'lately' can be applied in different ways.
--(search term(s)) lately.
-- lately (search term(s))
-- lately * (search term(s)).
-- (search term(s)) * lately.
* Other keywords:
--"Growing trend toward"
-- "A sharp increase."
-- "becoming more."
-- "becoming increasingly"
* Different combinations of keywords also yield content indicating possible trends to watch. It's also important to apply keywords describing specific:
-- Jargon.
-- Products
-- Services
-- Companies
-- Names of publications.
-- Or any other miscellaneous terms.
Search-results are very subjective. After all, inference requires "human input" to "separate the wheat from the chaff" as search engines can't automatically yield relevant trend information.
Trend-spotting through inference may even act "as a practice of sorts" for spotting new trends through intuition even before any relevant content is published!

| | Is there a search engine addon or alternative that will save and edit and annotate search? I search in connection with academic questions and would like to be able to edit out dud results and have it add new materials as I find them. So if I am searching for material on Beethovens deafness, I can get rid of moronic material and indicate which material is valuable and update articles as I find them. I know I can save them under favorites, but just xing or starring google or yahoo searches would be much easier. Ted

| Google's Little Devil update Timmermans 06:27:24 |
| | Can anyone tell me what this update is all about?
So far I see no change in PR no change in rankings.
What I do see, update in backlinks
I also suspect some minor results changes, for example 'maleisie' and 'maleisiл' used to give the same results, now they give different results but the weird thing is that both 'maleisie' and 'maleisiл' are still treated as one word in highlighted results
Anyone else noticed any weird stuff going on?

| google site: count changing Jim 03:52:19 |
| | Many of you will be aware that the way google counts pages in its searches is not very accurate. I find that with the site: operator my search counts are good until the number of pages exceeds about 1000, then it becomes about 10 times to many.
Funny thing I noticed recently is that the count from one of the google sites is suddenly more accurate. The exaggeration factor has apparently gone. This started a few days ago.
The google search IP for this is http://72.14.207.104/ Try e.g. site:www.bbc.co.uk compared with the usual search site

| Newbie Needs Help Google Ads Guest 02:39:23 |
| | I recently launched a web site and I am spending my limited marketing budget on Google Ad words.
The site is a bride related site so I am bidding on words like :
Bride Brides Mother Of The Bride Bridal Bridal Gown
etc ...
When I started I used $.05 as the bid and everything was good. What I am noticing now is that every day, more of my words become inactive in search. I started with 14 words and now only 1/2 are active and Google is telling me that I have to pay $1.00 for the words to work. Since my budget is $3.00 per day, that doesn't work for me.
Am I doing something wrong ? And, why is this happening ? It seems like extortion.

| a site links to one of my jpg Guest 00:39:22 |
| | 1) I have a language learning site. 2) I have an attractive Photo on the site of a studious looking woman on my site. 3) Another site, http://www.photo-pharm.com/ (a site I have nothing to do with) found this Photo and links to it. 4) It gives me 5000 visits a day. 5) I would not mind even if it's not targeted traffic but....
They link just to the jpg not a page. Therefore, no one visits my page just the photo, its does nothing but use up bandwidth. How do I turn this into traffic to my purchase page for example? Normally if an image is displayed on a page you just make it a link. But the issue is they do not link to a page, just a photo on my site.
Thank you

That would include search engine optimisation and search engine marketing such as AdWords. What are the prices and where to search? How much AdWords monthly budget would be optimal for a starter and what to say about SEO. What things SEO would include and for how long it could last? Please give me any ideas or even offers for a 40-50 pages site on two languages.

My conclusion from it is that if I have a site example.com with a million entries, google would index it faster if it was split into subdomains like foo.example.com, bar.example.com etc.

| SEO with Javascript dominated website HELP!!! Guest 08:24:31 |
| | Hi Guys
I have been reading alot about SEO techniques, and i realized some important factors I would love to fix but I really dont know how.
This is my site: www.yardsaledb.com
Content- my website is basically a Google Map of points of interests, this is the MAIN content of the website, but since its completely javascript, even the points on the map, how do i get Googlebot to crawl them? I would like to add more content but how? I mean where can i add words when my site is mainly devoted to showing the points of interest on the maps?
keyword density- again i want the map to be the center of attention where users can quickly and easily find sales near them, how do i enrich the density of the keywords such as yard sale, garage sale, etc when theres no place to put them?
I have this page up for about 1 month now and its not even in the search results when a user type "yard sale". it is indexed but its like lingering in some nether regions of the net.
I studied the source code of http://www.yardsalesearch.com/ because it is ranked very very high, and he also does not have much content but then why is his PR as good as it gets? I saw some of his backlinks, I tried to email and get on those links without success....and he really doesnt have that many backlinks.....why???
VERY LOST!! Any small suggestion would be helpful!!!
Thanks
