how do i find out who an adsense number belongs to

Guest 19 October 2005 21:22:53
recently on one of the sites i work for an adsense code was put up,
kinda hidden in some far end php includes so it was hard to find and
remove

im wondering if there is a way to trace the adsense number to find out
who it belongs to?

Assuming this is your site and you have full access to all the code, use a
good quality text editor such as TextPad that always gets my vote:

http://www.textpad.com/

and run "Search in files" on the whole directory that contains *all* your
site's code for string "google_ad_client" or another part of the AdSense
code for that matter. Compare google_ad_client to yours. If does not
match, replace with yours. Yes, it's that simple.

I dont think you'll be able to find the owner yourself. All you can
really do is clean it back out of your site, and (if you want to take it
further) report the incident to google.

Chris

If you have this number "google_ad_client = "pub-##############";"
it's unique to each account, so if someone has done something illegal
like add ads to a site they don't own contacting Google's Adsense
department would be your best bet.

If you are trying to trace the owner for another reason it's going to
be difficult, that code will be on every site they own that has
Adsense ads, so if you suspect a site you can check the Adsense code
to be sure, if you find another site with it on then check the whois
info and go from there.

You won't be able to use Google or similar search engines since it's
within javascript and not indexed by them as searchable text.
