| Google sitemaps problems now Big Bill 16:38:56 |
| | Mine aren't verified now, some of them, so I have to go through the verification process again. What is wrong with these idiots? What this means is that everyone will be trying to re-verify at the same time so the system will grind to a halt again. Gawd - if you had a choice, you wouldn't bother with Google, would you?

| Google to warn surfers about unsafe sites Big Bill 00:56:43 |
| | http://www.marketingvox.com/archives/2006/08/07/google_warns_users_about_unsafe_sites/
stand by for lawsuits a-plenty as Google advises against accessing - well, just about anybody really. This is a stupid idea, one of the worst yet, particularly when you consider it originates from a company with an established history of introducing product long, long before it's anywhere near ready.

| Google Adding Previously Dropped Pages Guest 23:30:36 |
| | According to yourcache.com, on of my sites had this...
13 July - About 10K pages listed
27 July - 9500 listed on a few datacentres, but less than 1K on most.
7th August - "-1" on several, 10K on some datacentres, and 100K (yes, one hundred thousand) on others.
Anybody else seeing this?

| To hyphen or not to hyphen (Was:Re: Google's Little Devil update) Www.1-Script.Com 18:34:05 |

Hey Fred,
You really want to go a little easier on hyphens in your domain name! I don't know about your REZULTZ but mine are not all that great on hyphenated domains and, although I've never used more than one myself, chances are you'll get hit by Google's latest quality score big times. It's a relatively new site, you will not loose much if you 301 it to something that's easier to spell. I think the sooner you do that the better. BTW, I can't believe canadafred.ca is not available - did you check it?

| Free classified list Guest 18:25:00 |
| | I am somewhat new so as always forgive my naive posts. Although I know classifieds are not good for PR or link increases (I think?, I hope they do not hurt), I think if your selling something with your website, and most of us are, they can generate traffic.
I use:
http://boston.craigslist.org/about/cities.html http://www.backpage.com/ http://www.hoobly.com/
These are three and it does bring traffic which results in sales to my site, although I doubt, PR.
Are there any classified type sites that are effective for bringing meaningful traffic to your site?
Thanks,
Mark
ps Bill your posts are great and they add a lot of value to this group, your are never pretendant like, you come from a place of superior knowledge. Thanks

| XHTML problem. Timm's 12:34:44 |
| | Howdy,
Here's the problem I have, I pull a script from an external .JS file, works fine, validates in all circumstances on W3 going from HTML to XHTML1.1
This is the tag I use; <script type="text/javascript"><!-- document.write(mystuff) --></script>
Now, on a Wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XHTML#The_XHTML_2.0_draft_specification) I read this;
Using document.write() in scripts instead of node creation methods Incorrect: document.write() Correct: document.createElementNS(); document.getElementById().appendChild();
I have difficulties getting this thing a) up and running, b) validated in at XHTML strickt.
I am under the impression that this is still current XHTML1 and not yet XHTML2, so unless someone here can confirm we're talking forward compatibility, I'dd like to know where I go wrong.
Anyone who knows anything about this?
Thank you for you time, Steven

| Google not showing any links Doc 02:53:14 |
| | Hi
I'm currently busy writing new software for our company to use which will integrate website content; until that point we're struggling along with the old website. Our natural ranking is not showing in Google hardly, which is obviously a problem. One of the reasons I have discovered is that according to Google, no sites link to ours. Now, I know this to be pooey, but try www.tyretraders.com in Google's search, and then try the "Links" option.
What could be wrong?
Thanks,
Doc

| How to use Google adwords?? Twice.Redeemed@Gmail.Com 02:11:20 |
| | I have a client that wants to go with paid Google adwords search. I think their budget is about $100 - $200 per month. We have selected the keywords we want to use. If we sign up with Google adwords with a budget of $200 per month how do we know how much we are paying for per click?
We have the correct meta keywords stored on the home page, but so far we do not rank very high with Google, what are some other tips in order to rank high with free search?
Regards,
Allen

| Writing articles for traffic Guest 23:09:47 |
| | I have seen and herd a lot about writing articles for traffic. For example,
http://www.weblinkseo.com/seo-guides/writing-articles.jsp
Has anyone had any experience or positive results from this or is it a spammy waste of time? Does it really generate links? Does it generate traffic that leads to sales? As a general comment: So many of the articles seem so basic but do not give you anything new.
Thanks,
Mark

| Google, an treat for privacy Eblanco 14:22:26 |
| | Today while searching/googling some info in my notebook, I saw an apparently innocent link in Google, in the upper left corner near my account name, there was a "Search History" link, when I clicked it, all my fears came true...
They logged all my searchs, I could see all the things I searched, at what times I searched them, they even show you a graphic with the most active hours of the day!! If I go to the groups section, I can see which groups I've been reading... its clear that they log everything...
If you have a Gmail account (as I do), you can see that in the right border, Google inserts ads relating with the message you are viewing, it even extracts addresses and links them with maps, I'm sure it will log that also. If your postman rode your letters and showed you advertisements about that... what would you do? And if your postman also rode your agenda?.
Even more, what happens to AdSense, it is everywhere, imagine that once Google knows your interests (you like MS better than Java, because you search more using the word "C#"), it shows YOU the proper ads, based on your google profile, it will be fine for someone, but in addition to targeting you with the proper ads, it traks all your movements in the net. How many sites have AdSense banners? All the baners reside in Google servers and they create an IFRAME pointing to the google domain, so they can track you.
Even more, Google is buying lots of companies to offer free WLAN service in the US, are you sure it will be free? It might be free of charge, but I could cost your privacy.
Let's put on the evil side:
Imagine a "MegaCorp" that knows what are your interests, what you look at what hours, reads your mail, knows your agenda, can track you on the net.
Imagine Google..
I will not write about Google Print... imagine thousands of books accesible everywhere, I don't use the encyclopedia since I discovered internet, imagine a MegaCorp controlling all the books, remember 1984? The Party can rewrite history, we'll you can edit Wikipedia now, or you can censor in China...
