LaTeX support announcement and new project request
Jan Lahoda 7 May 2003 20:31:45
Hi, I would like to announce the first public version of LaTeX support module. This module simplifies writing (and other tasks) a document using LaTeX.
The list of features includes: -code completion on: -(subset of) LaTeX commands and arguments of these -natural language words -\ref{} argument -\cite{} argument (parses BiBTeX file) -"javadoc" help on LaTeX commands -underlining spell-checker. -LaTeX model/tree (limited usage)
For installation instructions see enclosed README.
As I wish to continue developing this module in the future, I am also asking for a new project on netbeans.org. The name proposed by me is docsup (Document Support).

Perhaps this should be developed in contrib.netbeans.org for a while to see how far it goes? You can freely develop the module in CVS there. If it gathers some users and sees active maintenance, then that would be a good argument for a new project. Does it sound OK? (The problem on the site is that we have a number of SourceCast projects which sounded cool long ago but which are now essentially abandoned and which clutter CVS and Issuezilla.)
it should be acceptable to put a contrib.netbeans.org module on to the Alpha update center by including it in the daily alpha NBMs. Does this sound right to others?
The name proposed by me is docsup (Document Support).
Sounds rather generic - what kinds of documents would fall into scope?

So, originally it ought to be generic document editing support (everything between LaTeX and Word). Currently, it does not seem so generic to me, although there are many artefacts from the past. If the module resides on contrib, the name does not have to be so definitive, so can we try "latex"?

Sounds good - if you decide to change the name later, you just need to move the sources under contrib.netbeans.org, which is simple (you lose only CVS file history).
