Informix 10 Certification Request
for PeopleTools 8.49

See the attached PeopleSoft case for some encouraging news!

Of course, the latest PeopleTools available is 8.47 (which is what we are
using with our current PSoft Upgrade).
Oracle has not published when PeopleTools 8.49 will be released yet.

Note Detail:

Hello Scott,

I've received an answer from our certification request team. I've pasted
their comments below.

Oracle plans to support Informix 10 with PeopleTools 8.49. After version
8.49 has completed testing Oracle will consider back-certifying.

At this point I will close this case. Please don't hesitate to give me a

ODBC and F*&king IBM :-) Paul Watson 00:35:22
I've just uninstalled IDS10 from my laptop, now Data Direct and ALL my
ODBC connections now work. So re-install IDS10 and the ODBC is still
broken and I get an 'Unknown Error Message' driver version 2.90 or
-11355 driver version 3.30. [Data Director is fine]

However, ODBC connection under DBPing works :-)

Anybody got any ideas :-)

Database Servers on Sun T1 or T2 - Niagara Informix_guy 22:17:31
Does anyone have any experience in running IDS 10 (or 9.4) on Sun T1 or
T2? If so, were there any special configurations used for IDS or the
O/S? I have done some limited testing of a production application with
only fair results. We found it difficult to keep the cpus busy. The
box was a T2 with 8 cores (= 32 cpus) and 32G of memory. We ran our
instance with 16 cpuvps using affinity and with 20 cpuvps without
affinity. The second test had slightly better performance. The
testing we did on a Sun 490 (= 8 cpu) had much better performance.
This question was asked 6 months ago with little response I'm hoping
more people have had an opportunity to test

Permissions on a View Chris S 21:44:25
Here's a snippet from the Informix 10 Manual: "When you create a view,
PUBLIC does not automatically receive any privileges for a view that
you create. Only you have access to table data through that view. Even
users who have privileges on the base table of the view do not
automatically receive privileges for the view."

Does this hold true for other DBA's on the same database? It seems as
this is the case through some testing I have done here but it seems odd
to me. If I do not explicity grant SELECT on my view to a DBA user,
then they cannot select from it.

Can anyone tell me if this is working as it's supposed to? It seems
strange to me that DBA's don't just get full permissions by default on
new views.

korn shell executed using stored procedure....problem :( Guest 20:07:24
 Hi all,

I have a korn shell script which executed using the "system" command in
a stored procedure.
Everything works fine when I ran the stored procedure inside the
server. However, it behave abnormally when i ran the stored procedure
in a sql editor (connected to the informix server using ODBC
connection). Does anyone have any idea what is the possible cause?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Checking indexes after large deletes Bozon 21:35:18
Is there a way to determine how "messed up" an index is after a large
number of deletes have been done to a table? I searched here and didn't
see anything. Is there an oncheck command or sysmaster table to look
at? If so what values should I look for? I have to make a case for
rebuilding indexes and having hard data would make my case stronger.

Thanks.

Web data blade installation on RHEL4 Trev 13:34:16
Hi. We are experimenting with the Informix Web Data Blade on a Red Hat
Linux Enterprise 4. Not got to far so far.

Running the ./install script we get an error that appears to be related to
a -d paramater in the AWk command. (line 2 of install script)

Question. Has anyone had experience with installing the Web DataBlade in
the RHLE4 environment and if so, have they had this problem?

Thanks

Try to increase LRU_MAX_DIRTY and LRU_MIN_DIRTY to 2 and 1

The CLEANERS are responsible for background page cleaning as well

I dropped from 3.5GB of RAM to 2.5GB and 4GL quit working Anthony 12:51:39
 Help?

We made a physical move, and after some looking / poking around,
decided to move 1GB of RAM from our db server and put it into our mail
server. Simple change. Brought both systems up, one now reads 2GB (it
read 1GB before), and the other reads 2.5GB (it read 3.5GB before). No
configurations were changed (I'm the only admin, and did the physical
move and swap myself).

However, all of the 4GL reports quit working.

We're running Informix 7.31.UD8, on a RedHat 7.3 SMP (Dual Athlon MP
1900) system.

I can compile the 4GL progams perfectly, but when run, they show
"Segmentation Fault", when run as users root, informix, or myself
(anthony). No core file is produced.

I tried re-compiling all of the programs, but that hasn't helped at
all.

strace says this (I'm only including the last few lines):

open("/opt/informix/gls/lc11/en_us/0333.lco", O_RDONLY) = 3
fstat64(3, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=2628, ...}) = 0

Connect to sysmaste database:

select s.partnum, hex(s.flags) flags , f.indexname
from sysptnkey s, bla:sysfragments f
where s.partnum = f.partn
and f.tabid = (select t.tabid from bla:systables t
where t.tabname = 'bla')

-- adjust database and table name to your settings
-- for attached indices, you'll have to join systables and sysindexes

partnum 2097331
flags 0x00000298
indexname 124_97

-- This is the result of the query before the ALTER FRAGMENT

partnum 2097332
flags 0x00000218
indexname 124_97

-- This is the result of the query after the ALTER FRAGMENT
Note, the differrence, flag 0x80 is missing ! This flag indicates a
unique index implements a unique key constarint.

A unique key that does not have this flag is a unique key, but
does not implement unique constraint.

The difference is that on a unique indes uniqueness will be checked
immediately, for a unique constraint it will fail only at commit time.

e.g suppose you have table bla , col1 ineger, and values 1,2,3,4 in the
table.

With unique constraint , the SQL statement

begin work;
update bla ste col1 = col1 + 1 ;
commit;

will succeed, as the uniques of the result will be check at commit time.

With an ordianry unique index , the stament will fail with -346/-100 ,
as the update of the first row ( 1 + 1 ) will collide with unique key
'2'
which is already there.

Superboer [superboer7@t-online.de] wrote: > and if the alter fragment changes the unq constraint to an unq index> then this is> a bug for sure.

As I said, I'd vote for a bug, but not sure whether this behaviour is
documented
somewhere (maybe in a place I did not search)

In any case , it is inconsistent behaviour. In system catalog tables of
the database
the unique constraint is still defined and enabled.

I reported this as an defect to our devlopment and we will see.

Drop diagnostic/violation table Reinhard Habichtsberg 12:53:47
 IDS 9.40FC4W2

Trying to alter a table IDS generates the error:
-898 Cannot alter a table which has associated violations/diagnostics
tables.

The user has tried to add, drop, or modify a column in a table that has
a violations and diagnostics table associated with it.

Trying to drop the dia and vio tables with drop table foo.dia/foo.vio a new
error message appears:
-897 Cannot modify/drop a violations/diagnostics table.

The user has tried to alter or drop a table that is serving as a
violations table or a diagnostics table for another table.

I'm working as user informix and table owner is informix.

Reading manuals didn't help so I have no clue what to do.

Any help would be appreciated.

Another point is that this happens with the version IВґm using 7.31> UD8, but also with versions 9.21, 9.40 and 10, as IВґve tested. I did> not find any restriction to the alter fragment and constraints in the> documentation up until now.>
Does anyone know if this is a bug with the alter fragment > statement, or> any restriction with alter fragment and constraints?>

I reproduced the error on a test table and found out that the internal
index which exists to implement the UNIQUE constraint has been modified
to a simple unique index (key flags).
So the statement will fail depending on whether the value 'id+1' already
exists in the table or not.

The the UNIQUE constraint has been dropped from dbschema output , but is
still indicated as being active the system catalog tables.

I did not find this behaviour documented anywhere

So, I'd vote for bug :-/

OnLine tbtape restore - ISAM Format Error URBAN Leos 12:19:58
 Hi,
we have our server down after hardware failure.
It is old server Pentium I with SCO Unix 5.0.4 and Informix OnLine 5.

I installed specified OS and Informix to other computer, new computer
has Celeron (333MHz) processor. There is also second difference - on new
"server" I didn't create separate partitions for informix data, I used
normal OS files (the length of files is 2048000 bytes).

Here is list of files:
-rw-rw---- 1 informix informix 2048000000 Jun 15 15:54 online1
-rw-rw---- 1 informix informix 2048000000 Jun 15 16:16 online2

Restoring from tape with "tbtape -r" was successful (no error message).

Restore entire INFORMIX-OnLine system.
Please mount the first system archive tape and press Return to continue...
Restoring system control information, please wait...

Do you have another level of tapes to restore? (y/n) n

Is there a logical log tape to restore? (y/n) n

When I try to work with databases I get "Bad ISAM File format".
First of two databases display names of some (not all) tables, second
does not display nothing with "Cannot access system catalog".

Tbcheck returns "Bad ISAM File format".

In online.log are many records:
14:35:36 bfcheck: bad page: pg_addr 0 != bp->bf_pagenum 1000b0, userp =
80001bcc, pid = 622, uid = 201
14:35:36 -- WARNING: Fail Consistency Check -- pthdrpage:ptalloc:bad
partn page -- pid=622 user=201 us=80001bcc

What is wrong? I see three possible reasons:

- wrong tapes (but I tested 3 different tapes)?
- Celeron <> PentiumI (but OS and Informix are the same?)
- chunks are in normal files, not in separate partitions (but it worked
after installation without problems)

Do you have some tips?

Thank you very much.

restoring just from logical log tape Dawaves 11:25:56
When I run 'ontape -r', it asks me if I want to restore from an archive
tape (an 8mm tape) after restoring from level0 backup (a DLT tape). Is
there any way to just go straight to that 8mm tape for restore and
bypass the hour I have to wait for the level0 restore to complete
before getting the prompt for archive tape restore?

thanks!

ALTER FRAGMENT x UNIQUE CONSTRAINT Reitota@Gmail.Com 10:33:39
 Hello All.

I have recently used ALTER FRAGMENT to move a table from one dbspace to
another, and this table had a unique constraint defined in a specific
column. After the move we began to experiment a curious IDS behaviour.
The application updates this column like this:

update id set id = id + 1 where id >= value;

where column id is the column with the unique constraint defined.

Of course I donВґt like this solution but, as we know, deferred
constraint allow this kind of construction, as constraint violations
are checked after the statement finishes, and then no violation occurs.

Before the alter fragment this worked well, but after the operation we
began to experiment unique constraint violations. Most strange is that
this happens when we filter more than ten rows approximatelly. With
less than this, there is no problem at all. Also if I drop the
constraint and recreate it the problem goes away, but this is not
acceptable for big tables.

Another point is that this happens with the version IВґm using 7.31
UD8, but also with versions 9.21, 9.40 and 10, as IВґve tested. I did
not find any restriction to the alter fragment and constraints in the
documentation up until now.

Does anyone know if this is a bug with the alter fragment statement, or
any restriction with alter fragment and constraints?

Thanks in advance.
