| AGP 3.0 Socket won't fit ATI x800xl Alan Duquette 10:08:08 |
| | My motherboard supports 8x agp 3.0 but an ATI x800xl won't fit because of the closed end on the agp socket not being large enough for the hook at the end of the AGP card. What is up with that?

| Portable Harddisk and SD Memory Card? Ultra Kiasu 09:43:47 |
| | Is there any portable harddisk casing which had this "OTG" feature which allow the reverse copying from Harddisk to SD memory card?
The usual OTG device ONLY allow duplication of data FROM SD card TO 2.5" harddisk in the portable device. BUT does not copy out the data from the harddisk.
I am looking for a standalone non-PC device which allow the above features, and had a small LCD screen for selections.
Anyone saw such device before?

| AGP 3.0 Socket won't fit AGP 3.0 ATI card Alan Duquette 08:01:42 |
| | I just noticed that the picture on the box of the motherboards AGP slot shows a lever. My board does not look like the picture on the box as miy slot has no lever. I am in touch with the seller "Zipzoomfly" about this. Am awaiting a reply. Possibly a maufacturers error.

| Dual monitor video card, which one? Bazzer Smith 07:03:48 |
| | I am thinking of getting one of these as an alternative to a big monitor.
However I am not familliar with video card jargon and I am baffled by them, it's like decyphering the enigma code reading about them.
Anyway my current 'card' is a ATI Radeon Xpress 200G, what card would be suitable for me to run two monitors.
I could go to Radeons sit and try to figure it out from there but I will probably die of old age before I understand all the goobledegook.
For example here is mycard:-
http://www.ati.com/products/radeonxpress200/specs.html
I understand the first two lines of the spec the rest is b***ocks.
How do I go from there to finding a duel version of the card? Is there a university course I could attend?
I expect when I find out nobody wil sell it anyway.

| Faulty Packaging/Handling of a motherboard? george E 02:01:55 |
| | I bought a motherboard off Ebay. It arrived in a box, surrounded by bubble wrap. The motherboard was not put in antistatic envelop.
What is the probability, in your opinion, that this would cause a static charge during the shipping process?

| I have a question on backing up a hard drive's data on each reboot / shutdown Guest 01:43:38 |
| | I have a question on backing up a hard drive's data on each reboot.
On a mobile device, what type of a hardware / software configuration would you recommend that would allow a master hard drive to be backed up to another source on reboot.
A fairly quick solution would be best; a long backup would not work well, since this would have to be an automatic backup on startup or shutdown.
The device is running an Oracle server and database and on a bad power down / power fail we are currently having either OS or database corruption issues.
Since the device is mobile it would be nice to have something we could do via , remote connection or over the phone, that would provide a backup to last reboot on a software / hardware issue.
Then even if there was some data loss since last reboot, at least the system would be up and running.
I was hoping you would have some ideas.

| single side or double sided DDR400 what's the diff Pete 01:42:55 |
| | Hi
I'm going to buy the Asrock 939SLI32-eSATA2 motherboard. http://www.asrock.com/product/939SLI32-eSATA2.htm
I've been told to go for the double sided memory as it will give me more options, why is this?
What's the difference and does it really matter?
Also, anyone know aproximately, what the performance his would be between 2x 512MB DDR400 in dual channel and 1x 1GB single channel.
Thanks

| Is My Monitor Dying? Guest 01:40:48 |
| | I have a 19" CRT monitor and am running WinXP Pro. All of the sudden today my monitor is degausing itself. It clicks on and off like it would if you press the degaus button. It is also making a weird sound, for lack of a better word. Kind of like a clicking sound when the monitor first turns on. The only thing I"ve done differently is I installed updated drivers for my Creative Audigy soundcard last night. Does anyone have any idea if this is a hardware problem with the monitor, or is it possible the sound card driver update messed something up. I have a GeForce 5900 Ultra graphics card, running 5673 driver that installed when I installed Windows. Would updating my graphics driver help? Also wanted to mention that the screen kept getting smaller and larger, like when an electrical load is pulling power. Any help is greatly appreciated.

| AMD MB Recommendation ]V[Etaphoid 01:26:48 |
| | I've got an old AMD XP2000 Palomino that's without a motherboard after my other half's PC died a terrible death. She doesn't use it for much beyond basic web, office and CAD, so I'm keen to keep it kicking for a ittle longer.
I've also got an AGP (x2?) radeon 7200 and 1 gig of PC133 SDRAM. The old motherboard was an Iwill KK266, so something of that vintage that I can pick up on ebay would be ideal. Any recommendations?

| PCI Express x4 RAID controllers Odie 01:11:36 |
| | Does anyone have experience of at least a few of the above RAID controllers?
I need a number of these cards, and tend to dismiss many reviews located on websites that encourage advertising by such manufacturers. I prefer totaly unbiased opinions.
There don't seem to be an abundance of these cards on the market, but if anyone could unconditionally recommend a particular product I would be grateful.
Thanks.

| Graphics card problem...... Ian Stevens 01:07:24 |
| | Hi,
Not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question, but here goes anyway. I just installed a GeForce 5500 graphics card, and everything seemed to be fine. I got it for the twinview functionality. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, the monitor display is VERY green, whereas the clone image on the TV is as it should be. Changing color settings on the monitor makes no difference, neither does changing color settings on the card. Any ideas what might be causing this? My instinct is that the monitor is dying, but it seems strange to me that this has happened right after installing some new hardware.
Many thanks
ian
btw, running XP

| Drive Image problem CWatters 22:50:19 |
| | After a year of working fine Drive Image gave me this error once during image creation....
Error EA39070A: The internal structure of the PQI file is invalid or unsupported.
and all further attempts fail with this one.....
Error EA390712: Open failed.
Symantec suggest it's an access problem - but that user can create files on the target drive no problem. My other PC can backup to the same target. There is loads of space and it's been well defragmented now.
Any suggestions?
Perhaps reinstall DI?

| Best cheap motherboard for an Intel core 2 duo cpu Pete 22:45:17 |
| | I'm looking for the cheapest motherboard that fully supports the intel core 2 duo range of processors and has SATA 300 raid 0 and 1. Would be nice if the board had some overclocking potential but I know cheap and overclock don't go together.
Anyone know if new chipsets are coming out for this cpu and when they will arrive. I heard nforce5 was coming.
Thanks

| 5.1 Audigy 2 system but sound only comes out of one earphone Kolin Tregaskes 21:32:27 |
| | Hello,
I have a Creative Audigy 2 installed on my 64 bit Windows x64 machine. I've set up the sound options for 5.1 sound but when I play music in Windows Media Player when my earphones plugged the music only comes out of the left ear. Do you know how I can set up my machine to be in 5.1 and work for headphones? I've had this problem before and got it fixed but looks like I've lost the mail that had the fix in it.

| 133MHz Guest 20:13:00 |
| | I'm looking at this:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6852854&productCategoryId=cat01169&type=product&tab=1&id=1093468786781
It says PC100/133.
Then it says:
133MHz operating speed
Can it operate at 100 MHz as well? I thought the PC100 meant that, but it only says 133MHz operating speed.

| Motherboard recommendation needed Tungley@Spamfree.Bellsouth.Net 17:55:39 |
| | Hi folks, need some help here. About to build my first system in many years. Haven't kept up lately, but have been doing some research and such. Gonna go with an AMD AM2 based system, most likely using an Athlon 64 3800+ chip. Trying to keep my costs down, so I'll be using my current hard drives, peripherals, etc. I don't do gaming at all, so my video needs are minimal - thus my intent is to find a good mobo with integrated video, so I don't have to buy a new video card. Likewise with integrated sound. Integrated LAN would be nice, but not a requirement, since I have NIC cards a plenty.
I've used Shuttle and Soyo boards, then settled in with ASUS years ago, and have been partial to that brand. My only current choice for an ASUS would seem to be the M2NPV-VM. But my reading of various forums and such tells me that it's a problematic board, and that many are DOA. Since my purchase will be from an online vendor, I'm not sure I want to take a chance in this regard, if the board is not ready for prime time.
So, does anyone have any other recommendations? I've known people who used and liked Abit and Gigabyte, and I see some new vendors like FoxConn that seem to have good reps. But I'm not familiar with any of their lines, so I figured I'd come here and ask around. Open to any and all suggestions. Thanks.
