OT: product suggestion.

Philip Sayers 16 April 2004 15:31:32
 Listers,

Can someone recommend a bug tracking tool. I'm loathe to create my own
since I'm sure that there has to be something good out there. All our
products are for in house (using VS.net & VSS) and we don't really have
a formal method to track bugs, assign completeness, and test them. We
are trying to formalize it and improve our QA processes, the only
problem is that we have a budget freeze, so cheap is the name of the
game.

I found 'prtracker' the other day, but I've been directed to find
something cheaper if possible (i.e free)

Thanks.

In O'Reilly's Programming ASP.NET they put one together. I didnt work
through it, so I cant vouch for it, but the price is right.

 There is GNAT

http://www.gnu.org/software/gnats/

If you have a Linux machine you can use.
It is free.
It is not real easy to set up.

 Philip,

Have a look at BugTracker.NET: http://sourceforge.net/projects/btnet

After a few minor tweaks, it has been serving us well.

At $99 per user, FogBUGZ (http://www.fogcreek.com/FogBUGZ) is also worth
considering.
