VS.NET / XP Hoe

Fiach Reid 29 January 2003 18:54:24
 Hi,

Quick question, does anybody know if there is a problem using Visual
Stidio .NET (professional)
with Windows XP Home edition?. I tried re-installing it last night, and the
installation crashes out
just after it generates the installation scripts. I'm using origional CDs,
not pirates.

Please help!

Fiach

VS. net requires XP Professional--it won't run on the home edition. Win2k
Pro or Server, or XP pro are the supported OSs, unless things have changed
recently.

 According to
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/productinfo/sysreqs/default.asp XP
Home should be fine (and I have seen usenet posts from people using it).
The only problem with XP Home is that you won't be able to do ASP.NET
stuff, as that requires IIS.

As far as I know, VS.NET can be installed on any Windows version after
Windows 98 (2nd version). I am running VB.NET & C# on my Windows XP Home and
Windows 2000 Pro machines. You need IIS only if you want to run ASP.NET.

Thanks!

Nope, VS .NET works fine on XP Home, at least for desktop app
development.

I don't know if it works for ASP.NET development since XP Home come with
IIS.

You can't install it on Windows ME. You need an NT kernel-based OS (such as
NT4, W2K, WXP)
