[OSCOM] board speed / institutional memory

kit BLAKE 29 September 2006 19:22:14
 Hi OSCOM,
Maybe it seemed like it took a while to get the new members
instituted. Just so you know, it wasn't that the new board was
deliberating. After a few days of communications, it's apparent that
the board is a mobile bunch, who don't always have on-the-road
internet access.

Also, the new board would like to request that the old board not
vanish. :-) We're not saying the old board has, but they *did* vanish
from the board list.

As Ross wrote:> Agreed. Institutional memory, hand off, and all that. They're not> off the hook, just yet!

There's a plethora of details, e.g. how to edit the website, that we
need to know, and this general list is not a good place for such
minutiae.

given that it took us half a year to get to this point, i am actually
pleased to see that this went so fast :-)
Also, the new board would like to request that the old board not> vanish. :-) We're not saying the old board has, but they *did* vanish> from the board list.

i wondered about that too...

why not? unless it is something specific to the board (and editing the
website is not, because that is something that can be delegated to
someone outside the board), it should be open to every one.

if it is to much for this list, do we need a second list for
organizational matters? oscom being to withdrawn from the community is
part of what got us into the current situation in the first place, so i
would prefer to keep things in the open as much as possible.

i think there are three topics of interest:

* discussing bylaws, goals and all that.
* running the website, wiki, admin stuff
* discussing content managment, standards, comparing systems...

but until someone voices concern about this i don't think we need to
split these topics into seperate lists.

greetings, martin.

Just to clarify...I was unsubscribed by another person. I didn't ask
to be unsubscribed. If it would help for me to remain subscribed,
that's fine.

yes, we should have oldies back.
As for splitting lists, we should not since we don't have the volume.

I'm not sure, if my mail didn't come through, but I wrote this on the 22
September:

Hi

Congratulations to the new voted-in board members.

I added them to the board mailinglist and removed the old board members
(if that's ok for everyone). So you can go ahead and discuss your stuff.

If you need something for the mailinglist, just ask me

And the whole oscom.org server is still running on a vserver here at
bitflux. oscom can still use it, if it wants to, of course. I can also
give the root password to anyone interested or taking over that part :)

In the meantime, just get in contact with me, if you need anything.
***

I know readded Paul to the list, if anyone else from the old board wants
to be on the board list, please tell me.

And whoever will be responsible for the list and server management, just
get in contact with me, I can tell you the needed passwords.

And concerning the website, ironically there's currently no CMS behind,
due to the server change we had to do a few months ago. Just static
pages. OTOH, you have a more or less clean sheet now to start over :)

I would like to force the current board to be as transparent as
possible. Of course it might happen that people
start sending private emails, but I hope that the current board won't do
that ;-)

Cheers
