SOT: Lindex status and Lucene question George Abraham 03:49:55
 Hi all,
I was wondering about the current status of Lindex. I keep reading
that it is available in the DRK and I am not a subscriber. But now DRK
seems to be melting into something else. I wanted to use Lindex for
indexing database content, but it appears that I will have to use the
code that Aaron Johnson has over here:
http://cephas.net/blog/2003/12/06/indexing_database_content_with_lucene_coldfusion.html#000714
and work with that. Have people had success with using Lucene as a
database indexing search engine?

Thanks,
George

xp_cmdshell and security Hugo Ahlenius 03:49:45
 Hi,

A semi-OT thing, not CFML but an MSSQL issue.

I recently had a situation where I needed to execute an external
executable from a CF template to do some custom database manipulation
(that couldn't be done any other way). Since the web/cfmx server is
running on Solaris and the external exe and the database is on Windows I
can't use cfexecute (which would have been my prefered way).

So I was looking into xp_cmdshell. The database access is done by a
restricted login, which doesn't have any access to the master database.
I was looking into impersonation and possibly wrapping xp_cmdshell in an
sp in the database for this application, but I didn't get anywhere, it
seemed like I still needed to grant access for this login to
xp_cmdshell?

If anyone has any tips on how to do this, it would be most welcome!

It is not so important anymore though, since I managed to locate a
Solaris version of that executable, and it runs happily started through
cfexecute (and I don't have to worry about the database security!).

/Hugo

CFC/MVC - Where to put data validation d a collie-cfkdeEF6wwhaa/9Udqfwiw 03:49:43
 Hello

I'm been trying to use CFC's in a more OO way using a sort of MVC
methodology. I'm getting my head round most of the concepts but I'm
kinda stumped at one question in my head, Could anybody provide any
pointers? When considering user input data from the View layer, should
data validation happen in the Controller or in the Model layer?

My own initial thinking was that the Model should just ensure basic
validation and throw an error if it encounters a value that is incorrect
(i.e. as long as it's numerical, then that's okay, if it's a string,
then throw an error, not interested in whether it's a number within a
certain range). The controller has the main data validation and calls
the object only after all data has been validated.

I'm now seeing a lot of problems in my head with using this technique
and was hoping some of the OO crowd could give me some pointers in this
note.

TIA

OT: SQL Query Paul Giesenhagen 03:49:40
 I tried to ask this on Experts Exchange without any luck ... maybe one of you guys may be able to help out.

I am trying to build some pricing levels into our application and having a hard time with SQL query, here is an explination.

I have 2 tables:

LEVELS
================
levelID, code, description, status

LEVELPRICING
================
levelPriceID, levelID, productID, Price

I am running the following query:
=================================
SELECT l.levelID, l.code, l.description, p.price
FROM #request.levelTable# l
RIGHT OUTER JOIN #request.levelPricingTable# p
ON l.levelID = p.levelID
WHERE (p.productID = #url.productID#
OR p.productID IS NULL)
AND l.status = 1
=================================

Basically I have the tables above (let me populate some data:

Levels
levelID, code, description, status
1 555 Wholesale 1
2 444 Gold Member 1
3 222 Silver Member 0

LevelPricing
levelPriceID, levelID, productID, Price
1 1 18 30.00
2 1 29 25.00
3 2 18 25.00
4 2 42 27.00

I want to pull out WHOLESALE AND GOLD MEMBER (Silver is status 0 so it is turned off).

I should be pulling out 2 records IF I am passing URL.PRODUCTID = 18, I should have 30.00 and 25.00 for wholesale and gold.

IF my url.productID is 0 (a new product page). Then I STILL want to pull out the two rows for WHOLESALE and GOLD MEMBER, but the price should be NULL (since there is not a record for productID 0 in the levelPricing table.

SO for productID = 18
l.levelID, l.code, l.description, p.price
1 555 Wholesale 30.00
2 444 Gold Member 25.00

For ProductID = 0
l.levelID, l.code, l.description, p.price
1 555 Wholesale NULL
2 444 Gold Member NULL

On the product building page I would like to list out all the various descriptions of level pricings from the levels table. IF the productID matches up, I would like to output the associated price with the level. IF productID is 0 (or a new record), I would like it to list out the levels.description with a NULL price.

This query is not working, if there are prices associated with the productID it shows the levels, but if there are not pricing associated with the productID it doesn't show the various levels.

Any suggestions? I have tried multiple variations without avail. (Needs to work in MS Access and MS SQL)

FDA prohibits sale of Red Bull drink Adam Haskell 03:49:38
 With all the recent talk about red bull...

http://sify.com/finance/fullstory.php?id=13895024

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FDA prohibits sale of Red Bull drink
Wednesday, 13 July , 2005, 14:26

When contacted by UNI,
FDA Commissioner M Rameshkumar confirmed that the drink was not being
allowed to be sold and they had sought a certificate from the
manufacturers to prove that taurine, an amino acid used in the drink,
was synthetically manufactured.

The FDA has said the certificate should be from a reputed laboratory
in the country such as the Central Food and Technology Research
Institute. The company has also been asked to give the cost of
production of taurine for 1,000 mg.

A non-governmental organisation had moved the FDA on the issue.

According to contents on the bottle, the can contains about 1,000 mg
of taurine. The cost factor would give the FDA a picture of the cost
of production of the energy drink.

According to sources, generally taurine was of animal origin, obtained
mostly from bile of ox.

Rameshkumar said the FDA tested on average about 800 drugs and food
samples every month and ended up sending notices to ten per cent of
them.

death due to plame outing? Dana 03:49:35
 I asked this question a while back, and I would actually really like
to know the answer to it. I subscribe to a number of the more
wild-eyed political lists on both sides of the political spectrum and
have seen this charge only on the left. Is the right simply keeping
very quiet? Or is the left full of it?

Enquiring minds want to know. Anyone? Is this knowable by the average
person at this point?

Dana
I have no information about people placed in actual jeopardy by these>actions; I hope this was not the case. But would I actually know if>someone had been? Would you? Should Rove have been tiptoe through the>tulips on the subject at all?

New ColdFusion shirts available... Will Tomlinson 03:49:34
 Hey all,

Didn't post this in cf-community because I wanted most of you to see what I'm doing. :)

After looking for apparel designed for developers, specifically ColdFusion, and pretty much coming up empty, I decided to design some myself. The first run will be available 6-23-05. I'm just starting out with 3 designs, and you have a choice of 3 shades of black for now. :) Sizes available are L, XL, XXL. More designs and colors will follow soon!

The price is $15 + shipping. The shipping rates are very reasonable. You can pre-order the shirts now from my temporary site and I'll ship them out as soon as I receive them. It's called codefusiongear.com (the domain will be active in a day or so).

I take requests and would appreciate any you might have.

Thanks,
Will

Function or CFC: reverse compliment a sequence Richard Colman 03:49:33
 So, I am going to use this a bunch of times. Is this kind of thing best
setup up as a custom function or CFC?

Subject: RE: reverse compliment a sequence

Well, it needs to be done a character at a time, so, I am not entirely sure
that

replace ("ACTG","TGAC", "all") would work in all cases.

However, Barney's solution is quite elegant!

TNX to both of you for helping with a common genomics transformation.

Rick.

Subject: Re: reverse compliment a sequence
I need to to reverse compliment a nucleotide sequence, so
C become a G>G becomes a C>A becomes a T>T becomes an A
I need to go through a string a character at a time and build a new string.
So:
"ACTG" becomes "TGAC"

At first sight, simply
replace ("ACTG","TGAC", "all")
should do it, but I suspect the problem to be a little more complex, can you
give us more detail (may be a link) about what a "nucleotide sequence" may
look like?

Server Restart Tarantor 03:49:32
 Hi,

I have a dedicated server with Win2k3 and I want to restart it.

But terminal services does not work now. I can only reach my server tomorrow
morning.

But ftp and CF (CFMX7) are working and I can upload any CF code to the
server. I thought that I can restart server with a simple CF code. :-)

I will check a solution with CFExecute etc., but if you have already a small
code or a tip, that would be great.

Best regards,

Oрuz Demirkapэ

Using a directory path as a switch statement Mark Leder 03:49:31
 Hi all,

I typically use an include file for navigation elements. However I want to
be able to show a tree for directories two levels deep. In this example,
I'd like to show the menu below for both the "/presentations/" directory and
the "/presentations/video/" directory. The example works fine for the
"/presentations/' directory, but it will not display for the
"/presentations/video/" directory. I'd rather not have a separate full tree
for each subdirectory.

Are there other approaches to making this work?

Using CF5 and CF6 in one application Mike Oakes 03:49:30
 We have an application that runs partly under CF5 (FB3) and partly under
CFMX (FB4.1).
Both parts have the same application name.

If control is passed from one part to the other, by an <a href> with
cfid:cftoken being preserved, it seems that the client-variables db gets
updated incompatibly by the 2 versions of CF.
In particular, the data field of the CGLOBAL table is malformed (it starts
with an "=" sign).
The result is that "client.xxx" cannot be evaluated by CF5.

Is anyone away of this problem, and possible work-arounds?

Is it perhaps something to do with case-sensitivity, for example?

-Mike Oakes

Quick OT Javascript question. PART 2 Jeff Waris 03:49:29
 Another question:

In my previous question.. I needed to grab the currently selected option
from a select list.

I can now get the selected value using this code...

var SelOpt = document.myform.colors.options.selectedIndex;
var colortype = document.myform.colors[SelOpt].value;

I now need to get the value of a hidden input that is dynamically named from
the select list value...

Visusally it looks like this...

<select name="colors">
<cfloop query="color_names>
<option value="#name#">#name#</option>
<input type="hidden" name="#name#" value="#rating#">
</cfloop>

I am looking to get the RATING value.
I can get the selected NAME using the code above, but my attempts to extract
the hidden variable have been unsuccessful.

I've tried:

var amt = 'document.myform.' + colortype + '.value';
and
var amt = document.myform.colortype.value';

I'm stumped.. Any suggestions???

Thanks,
Jeff
