| Bush appointing religious loonies to head FDA positions. Angel Stewart 03:53:11 |
| | "<snip>
President Bush has announced his plan to select Dr. W. David Hager to head up the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee. The committee has not met for more than two years, during which time its charter lapsed. As a result, the Bush Administration is tasked with filling all eleven positions with new members. This position does not require Congressional approval. <snip> Dr. Hager, is the author of "As Jesus Cared for Women: Restoring Women Then and Now." The book blends biblical accounts of Christ healing women with case studies from Hager's practice. His views of reproductive health care are far outside the mainstream for reproductive technology. Dr. Hager is a practicing OB/GYN who describes himself as pro-life and refuses to prescribe contraceptives to unmarried women. In the book Dr. Hager wrote with his wife, entitled "Stress and the Woman's Body," he suggests that women who suffer from premenstrual syndrome should seek help from reading the bible and praying. As an editor and contributing author of "The Reproduction Revolution: A Christian Appraisal of Sexuality Reproductive Technologies and the Family," Dr. Hager appears to have endorsed the medically inaccurate assertion that the common birth control pill is for causing abortions.
<snip>"
Ok so maybe we should look past what seems obvious, and consider the number of other good qualities this gentleman may have, that cannot be found in anyone else without such extreme religious viewpoints.

There is 3 level of menus and hte guy who programmed it made loops inside of loops with different queries. I'm looking for a way to optimize this since it's taking 1000 ms to load. I looked at the cache options but it's not really an option since the color of the menu change from a variable in the url. The code looks somthing like this : query menu loop over menu query submenu for this menu if there is submenu loop over sub menu query subsubmenu for this submenu if there is subsubmenu loop over subsubmenu Any ideas? Thanks Pat

| CFCHARTSERIES cannot do different colors for each bar in bargraph Dustin Snell [Unisyn Software 03:52:51 |
| | Hi all,
Trying to switch my charts finally from the old Allaire Java applets to the new CFCHART ones. I am using CFMX 6.1 with CFCHART and CFCHARTSERIES to show total sales for each sales rep for the current day. It is a Bar graph style outputting flash content and specifying the query parameter in the cfchartseries tag.
Problem is, I want each bar on the bargraph to be a different color, but it seems to ignore my barcolor parameter even thought it is valud a fieldname in the database. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Here is my code: <cfquery name="GetTotals" datasource="#datasource#"> SELECT smuser.id, smuser.id, smuser.name, smuser.barcolor, sum(orders.Total) As SumSales FROM smuser,orders where smuser.id = Orders.salesrepid and (orders.odate >= #CreateODBCDateTime(start_date)# and orders.odate <= #CreateODBCDateTime(end_date)#) AND completed=1 group by smuser.id,smuser.name,smuser.barcolor </cfquery>
<cfloop index = "i" from = "1" to = "#GetTotals.RecordCount#"> <cfset DataTable.sumSal[i] = #Replace(DollarFormat(GetTotals.SumSales[i]), '$','')#> </cfloop>
<cfsavecontent variable="graph_data"> <!--- Generate the graph ---> <cfchart format="flash" xaxistitle="Sales Rep" yaxistitle="Dollar Amount" show3d="yes" labelFormat="currency" foregroundColor="##333333" chartheight="250" chartwidth="480" backgroundcolor="#color_table_background2#"> <cfchartseries type="bar" query="Gettotals" itemcolumn="name" valuecolumn="SumSales"> </cfchartseries> </cfchart> </cfsavecontent> <!--- Stop saving output---> <!--- Change the swflash.cab codebase location from the Macromedia URL for the unsecure site to the secure site ---> <cfset graph_data = Replace(graph_data,"http://","https://") >
<!--- Now output the graph ---> <cfoutput>#graph_data#</cfoutput>
Thanks for any help you can provide,

| Anybody Watching Project Runway? Gruss Gott 03:52:40 |
| | Just wondering because I love that show - you can learn a lot about personalities and work styles. Here's my take of some of the finalists:
Wendy - I never thought she'd make it! She suffers from low self-esteem but has an incredible tenacity. She does well when she has a well defined box to play in, but kind of flounders without direction. She'd probably do well to start as a corporate designer and then work her way into her own stuff. She's my favorite, although she's really isolated herself and worked herself into a corner that forces her to do things she perceives as protecting herself, but I think she's really hurting herself.
Austin - stating the obvious, he's a one trick pony but he does it well and probably can be successful on his own right away.
Jay - He seems like he did the show on a lark because he never thought he had the talent to be a serious artist so he'd just show up and mess with everyone until he got kicked off. He's got a lot of talent, but my thought would be that he'd need a firm or partner to guide his designs until he figures out how to cater to clients.
Kara Saun - She's won a lot, but she seems more mediocre to me. She has good designs, but they're not great and she's always telling everyone her CV. If you want consistency, it's probably her, but I'll be surprised if her final designs contain something great.
DISCLAIMER: I say all of this knowing absolutely nothing about fashion or "couture" so it's probably all crap.

On that note: yah gotta love flickr.com and of course everything google does.
Lots to praise in the above sites...
I have also seen praised... Zimbra www.zimbra.com Rollyo www.rollyo.com Zvents www.zvents.com Squidoo http://squidoo.com/blog/
Although, except for the "built for the new paradigm", not sure I get the "praise" part. Zimbra looks pretty nice - I am excited to find some time to get it installed, and I am interested in Squidoo because I think there is gap right now they want to fill.
Web 2.0 blog entry http://www.davidgalbraith.org/archives/000948.html#000948 (David Galbraith is worth following.) But the actual blog entry of note: http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items/2005/10/21.html
For kicks... I expect a bunch of the www.*R.com sites ...to crop up. poised for "acquisition".
While we are talking about delicious and the new wave of cool tools.
Microchunking. http://mp.blogs.com/mp/2005/11/s_6.html
I'm also watching the social networking space. just starting to crack the surface. I think function, integration and visualization are key components still waiting to emerge. www.orkut.com www.hiq.com www.myspace.com ...there are a ton of companies in this space already... the list goes on.
I am still waiting for the social network driven freecycle application. (Create personal gifting and sharing networks)/shared DVD databases lah de blah blah.
Software. www.barnraiser.com (Around Me / Igloo) - not quite there yet. interested in any and all conversations about these topics.
Apologies for Divergence. Eric
