| Quick OT Javascript question. Jeff Waris 03:49:28 |
| | 4:50 Ponderings...
How do I grab the CURRENTLY selected option in a select list WITHOUT knowing how many options. (the options are dynamically created)
Say we have in select colors
Red Green <selected> Blue
Document.myform.colors[1].value would be the selected one, but how would you figure that out dynamically?
Thanks.. Jeff

| SQL date/time issues... Greg Morphis 03:49:18 |
| | This is irritating me.. it seems like it should work but isnt.
I have a query.. the base query
SELECT TO_CHAR(t.startdate,'hh24:mi:ss') AS starttime, TO_CHAR(t.finishdate,'hh24:mi:ss') AS finishtime, taskid, startdate, finishdate FROM TASK t
returns
STARTTIMEFINISHTIMELPAD(TASKID,5)STARTDATEFINISHDATE 07:00:0018:00:00309D28/6/2004 7:00:00 AM8/10/2004 6:00:00 PM 09:00:0014:00:0030A988/1/2004 9:00:00 AM8/5/2004 2:00:00 PM 09:00:0012:30:0030AB78/2/2004 9:00:00 AM8/5/2004 12:30:00 PM 10:00:0018:00:0030BEB8/9/2004 10:00:00 AM8/10/2004 6:00:00 PM 07:00:0008:00:006E61F8/21/2004 7:00:00 AM8/22/2004 8:00:00 AM
I shrunk the taskid field down to hopefully make it more legible..
What I'm trying to do is pass a date a time return rows that fall within that date/time.. it HAS to check the date and time seperately..
So tacking on the date part... no problem
SELECT TO_CHAR(t.startdate,'hh24:mi:ss') AS starttime, TO_CHAR(t.finishdate,'hh24:mi:ss') AS finishtime, LPAD(taskid,5), startdate, finishdate FROM TASK t WHERE TO_DATE('08/21/2004','mm/dd/yyyy') >= TRUNC(t.startdate) AND TO_DATE('08/21/2004','mm/dd/yyyy') <= TRUNC(t.finishdate)
this returns 1 row as it should.. 07:00:0008:00:006E61F8/21/2004 7:00:00 AM8/22/2004 8:00:00 AM
but now I have to check a time to make sure it doesnt fall within that range..
to me it seems AND TO_CHAR(TO_DATE('07:00:00','hh:mi:ss'),'hh24:mi:ss') >= t.starttime AND TO_CHAR(TO_DATE('07:30:00','hh:mi:ss'),'hh24:mi:ss') <= t.finishtime should work.. this returns 07:00:00 and 07:30:00 and it should compare to starttime and finishtime.. but it's not working.
Can someone offer assistance?
Thanks!

| cfcontent - what am I missing? Carol Chandler 03:49:17 |
| | I have searched the archives here, books, and forums at MM. My client says that the download I gave her works for maybe half of her customers. Others are getting .cfm files, or possibly something else that they can't use. That is just not acceptable, you know? Here's the relevant code:
<cfoutput><CFHEADER NAME="Content-Disposition" VALUE="attachment; #variables.attach#"> <CFCONTENT TYPE="application/x-zip-compressed" FILE="#form.userfile#" deletefile="no"></cfoutput>
Am I missing an important clue, or is CF just the wrong thing to use for downloads? My client is selling downloadable products, so this is crucial.
Thanks, Carol Chandler

| Paying Shrinks For Honesty S . Isaac Dealey 03:49:13 |
| | If you want real honesty, you typically have to pay a> shrink or> consultant to give it to you. Consider my comments a> freebie. No, that doesn't work... ... well not with shrinks... it may or may not work with consultants -- you have to pick them carefully... a shrink doens't necessarily tell you what you want to hear, but I'm not sure if what I've heard from shrinks could be described as "honesty"... It's more like some twisted combination of enquiry and cajoling. Who else has heard that shrinks have the highest suicide rate amongst various professions? Not that such a statistic is liable to mean much, given that you then have to determine what qualifies as a "profession", what professions are less likely to show up in the survey of dead people, etc, etc, etc...

| I can now play DOOM! Mwawhahahaha! Jim Davis 03:49:09 |
| | In a fit of what my wife called "childishness" I went out today and bought both a new MSI NX 6800 Ultra and a new 600 watt Enermax power supply to run it (my old 430 watt power supply just couldn't do it).
I will almost definitely later regret spending nearly my rent on hardware to play a $40 game... but for now I'm just happy to be killin' zombies. ;^)
The card itself is a BEAST. It's a two slot card (one for the card, one for the fan - although why they didn't have the fan exhaust directly out the backplane I'm not sure) and requires TWO 12v molex inputs for power. Again I'm not sure why it wants two molex inputs (since I'm running both off the same wire anyway - couldn't they just split it inside?)
It's working great... DOOM 3 looks absolutely great. I still can't get "ultra" quality at 1280x1024 (the native res of my LCD) but "high" quality at that res is smooth as silk.
The dual DVI output is fine although I see more variation between the two monitors than I did on my Parhelia. Still, it's a very slight variation... just more than I'm used to.
However the card is really, truly "dual display" in that both heads are completely capable - both heads have overlay for example (even the Parhelia doesn't offer that) so my TV card (finally!) works just as well on either monitor. Also you can, just in software, set either monitor as the "primary".
Windows looks ever so minutely worse (to me) on the card - slightly "fuzzier". But it's nothing I'll notice after a day or two.
All told I'm very happy, but I've just started playing with it.
Anybody want a used Parhelia cheap? Or, for that matter, a 430 watt Enermax power supply? ;^)
Jim Davis

| Medicare: "Cheap Drugs are easy!" Gruss Gott 03:49:08 |
| | Hi All,
My wife and I got a lot of laughter out of this:
Grandma's little helper Sep 23rd 2004 | WASHINGTON, DC From The Economist print edition
[SNIP]
The White House underestimated the confusion the new law would cause. Any big change in the vast Medicare bureaucracy risks chaos, but this law is spectacularly complicated. Most of the changes do not start until 2006. The one benefit that people can see before the election—the introduction of drug discount cards—is only temporary.
These Medicare drug cards, introduced in June, have many good features. They bring discounted prices, and poorer Americans get a $600 credit on their cards. But relying on a website to help people work out which card brings them the cheapest drugs has proved a blunder: only one in four older Americans has EVER USED THE INTERNET.
[SNIP]
My wife and I came up with a good commercial:
Seniors! Getting your new Government drug discount is as simple as 1-2-3!
1.) First, use your Wi-Fi or Broadband connection to anonymous FTP to ftp.cheapdrugs.gov.
2.) Next, download the MPEG and PDF from ~anonymous/public.
3.) Simply load the MPEG onto any DIVX codec compatible device (at least MPEG-2, layer 3), and, if you'd like, stream it to your Bluetooth PDA.
(If you don't have the MPEG-2 layer 3 codec, simply download the MP3 and use any 22.050 kHz, 80 kbps MP3 decoder.)
Cheap drugs are just clicks away!

| IT NEVER ENDS! S . Isaac Dealey 03:49:01 |
| | Our landlord just had some people come to replace the windows in our apartment... of the 4, one of them spoke some broken english... While they were here they took it upon themselves to break 2 of our 3 fans, the central AC, almost every marble window-sil and a couple walls. They also left large amounts of shattered glass on the ground _everywhere_ both inside and outside the apartment, slathered both sides of the window glass with caulk and left the price stickers on the outside of each window where none of us can reach them to peel them off... on the 3rd floor.
Their tool of choice to remove the original windows apparently was a crowbar.
Fucking incompetent retards.
In addition to not knowing when we'll have AC, they tore the marble window-sil in the living room completely out (before the landlord came by and told them they weren't supposed to remove the sils) so now we have a gaping hole in the wall between our sofa and the window that covers the room in plaster soot when the cats inevitably jump up on it.
