Extranet Server?

Joseph A Nagy Jr 7 July 2003 07:32:13
 I have a friend whose parents run their own website on the Apache
Advanced Extranet Server. I've searched the Apache website and spent
some time googling and I can't find it! Please help?!

 Advanced ExtraNet Server is a Mandrake package of Apache fully loaded with
all the modules.
When you get to the default page of it you'll find a link to their homepage.

Mandrake package?

I already have Apache 2.0.40 on my box. I'm really just looking to set
up an intranet and thought that the ExtraNet Server was specifically
for that.

It's funny. I can run an external website problem but I haven't the
faintest clue on how to set up an intranet. Hehe.

 I might me missing something here, but this is basically a no brainer. I have several of both and some that do both. It's all based on the NIC and the
address. Oh, not Apache but LGWS. But that doesn't matter

For example If I want a web server for just Intranet then the nic in the apache machine would be something like 192.168.0.10. And an internal DNS
server would set the www to the IP.

If I wanted the web site to be both internet and intranet then 2 NICs, one with 192 subnet and one with an open internet address.

Have I helped.

Well, It's going to be a sub-domain on my business's website. True, the
server software doesn't matter too much I imagine.
For example If I want a web server for just Intranet then the nic in> the apache machine would be something like 192.168.0.10. And an> internal DNS server would set the www to the IP.

Okay.

Well, I have only one NIC available. Wouldn't it be possible using a
vhost to set something like this up? I guess all I'm really looking to
do is restrict a sub-domain of one of my sites to the intranet.
Have I helped.
<snip>

You did. you got me looking at this from a clearer perspective of what's
involved.

This could be as simple as:

<VirtualHost *>
ServerName www.business.tld
...
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost *>
ServerName intranet.business.tld
DocumentRoot /path/to/docroot
<Directory /path/to/docroot>
# only allow access from your intranet's IP-range
Order Deny,Allow
Deny from all
Allow from 192.168
# if you want to allow access from outside, add this:
AuthType Basic
AuthName "Business Intranet"
AuthUserFile /path/to/password-file
Require valid-user
Satisfy any
...
</Directory>
....
</VirtualHost>

(Look up each directive you're not familiar with)

Regards,
Robert Andersson
