For what its worth, the detection of mod_perl changed:

/usr/ports/www/p5-Apache-Reload>
sudo make
===> p5-Apache-Reload-0.10 depends on file: /usr/local/bin/perl5.8.8 - found
===> Configuring for p5-Apache-Reload-0.10
don't know anything about mod_perl generation: 0
currently supporting only generations 1 and 2 at ./Makefile.PL line 102.
*** Error code 2

This didn't use to be the case, I can obviously work around it and just set
the variable correctly.

I stole most (if not all) of the code for the mod_perl version detection
from Apache::SizeLimit since that seemed to be the model for how the
versions should be detected. Can you test Apache::SizeLimit and see if
you are getting the same results?

That detection process is a real pain. I have wished that it could be
pulled out and put into something like Apache::Bootstrap since this
process is crucial to almost all of the Apache2?:: modules. I don't
know if that is the right approach though - thoughts?

Oh, you mean the stuff *I* tweaked :)
I'd bet it does, I'll get to size limit in a bit.

Actually if mod_perl2 isn't installed and you ask for it:
sudo make c
/usr/bin/env MOD_PERL=2 perl Makefile.PL
[......]
don't know anything about mod_perl generation: 0
currently supporting only generations 1 and 2 at ./Makefile.PL line 102.

I'd rather this said mod_perl 2 not available or something.....

There's a few commits coming from me soon and some FreeBSD prs :)

I may even be in favor of breaking back compat, to get it this correct and
simple here, but I'm sure someone will disagree with me.

I don't know what the right idea is, but it sure would be nice to have it
somewhere central [we can't seem to quite to get it right even once :)]
